About

Louise is an award winning and versatile scientific illustrator, artist and creator based in Newcastle NSW. She has a passion for communicating science, nature, history and culture through creative design and interpretation.

Louise has a Bachelor of Natural History Illustration from the University of Newcastle and in 2020 won the prestigious Margaret Senior Prize for Wildlife Illustration and in 2022 was a UON college medal recipiant.

She develops interpretive content, illustrations, artworks and designs for a range of clients. She recently designed and created the new interactive and innovative interpretive space at the Hunter Wetlands Centre. Other projects have included clients such as the Central Coast Marine Discovery Centre, Wiley Publishing, The National Trust, NSW Geo-Trails the Central Darling Shire Council, HMRI-Mothers and Baby Research team. She has recently worked alongside PHD candidates to help bring their papers to life, and regularly takes commissions for a variety of clients.

Working in a variety of 2D, traditional and digital mediums she also enthusiastically utilised 3D mediums when ever the opportunity arises and has a mild obsession with creating miniature dioramas for museum display.

Louise has exhibited artwork at many galleries locally and internationally including the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney and the international exhibition of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators.

Previously Louise has worked as the Children’s Program Co Ordinator at a local art studio where she programmed and taught children, teens and adults in a wide variety of art and creative techniques. Here she also started a successful art program for toddlers and babies.

In 2019 Louise was awarded the University of Newcastle Natural History Illustration Scholarship, recognising excellence in her studies.

In 2021 She created her first illustrated children’s book, Excuse me, but my name is NOT ‘Mittens’!, which can be purchased from the shop tab on this website.
